Cubie 120
Algupära
Cube was founded in 1993 by Marcus Purner in Waldershof, in the Fichtel Mountains of north-eastern Bavaria, starting on just 50 square metres inside his father's furniture factory. From importing and reselling a handful of bikes, Cube grew into one of Germany's largest bicycle makers, still owner-managed, selling to more than 60 countries and building thousands of bikes a day at a large modern Waldershof facility. Its reputation was built on mountain and road bikes with strong spec-for-money value, and that engineering culture filters down into its kids' range. The Cubie 120 is Cube's entry point in that range: a 12-inch first bike (the '120' referring to the 12-inch wheel size) offered both as a pedal bike and as a pedal-free balance bike, designed to give very young children a light, properly proportioned German-made alternative to heavy supermarket kids' bikes.

Verdikt
- Genuinely light aluminium frame and fork - much easier for a toddler to handle than heavy budget kids' bikes
- Thoughtful safety kit: coaster brake for beginners, child-sized levers, steering limiter, chainguard, smoothed edges
- Two options (pedal Cubie 120 and Walk balance bike) plus a second seatpost on the Walk so it grows with the child
- Short usable life by nature - a 12-inch bike is outgrown in a year or two, so value depends on buying/selling used
- Coaster rear brake divides opinion; some parents prefer two hand brakes to build the habit earlier
- Pedal version is discontinued (replaced by the Cube Numove 120), so new stock and spares get harder to find
