Bergamont is a Hamburg-based German bicycle brand founded in 1993, known for its blend of engineering-led design and value pricing; since 2016 it has been part of the Scott Sports group, which gave it access to a large development and supply pipeline. The E-Horizon is Bergamont's core e-trekking family and one of its best-known e-bike lines in the German-speaking market, sitting between a pure city commuter and a load-carrying tourer. Rather than chasing lightweight sportiness, the E-Horizon was conceived as a dependable everyday 'workhorse' — a fully-equipped bike (rack, fenders, integrated lights) you can buy once and ride in all weather for years. Bergamont built it around the mature Bosch mid-drive ecosystem, which lets the range span from affordable Active Line Plus city builds up to high-torque Performance CX / Smart System touring machines, all on the same recognisable frame platform in Gent, Lady and Wave step-through shapes.

- Fully equipped out of the box — rack, mudguards and battery-powered lights — and excellent load-carrying for commuting/touring
- Upright, high-visibility riding position and a wide choice of frames (Gent/Lady/Wave) and battery sizes to fit almost any rider
- Heavy, especially full-suspension FS trims (~26-28kg), which makes lifting/carrying and stairs awkward
- Premium pricing when new; entry to the range is not cheap for what is a utility bike
- Detail niggles reported (saddle comfort, weak front-light beam pattern, tall top tube on Gent needing a big leg swing)

2019-2020 (Active/Performance Line, 500Wh)
- Original city-trekking builds; lighter, lower torque, smaller battery. Cheapest to buy used but oldest Bosch generation (older diagnostics, no Smart System app).
2020-2022 (Performance CX Gen4, 625Wh)
- The 'sweet spot' era for used buyers: high-torque, proven Gen4 motor, big battery, good spec. Non-Smart-System (older display/eBike Flow not applicable).
2023-2025 (Bosch Smart System)
- Current generation: connected Smart System (eBike Flow app, over-the-air updates), bigger battery options, belt-drive Tour trims. Note early Smart System units needed firmware updates.
