Origin

The Cross fills the gap between Atala's pure city bikes (Discovery) and its MTB range (Replay/Planet). Flat bars, 700c wheels, and a relaxed geometry make it equally comfortable on cycle paths and light unpaved trails. The "cross" positioning — between road and trail — has been consistent since the model's introduction in the early 2010s.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Rigid aluminium frame is lightweight and stiff for efficient flat-ground commuting
  • Wide 700x35–40c tyre clearance handles mixed surfaces better than pure city bikes
  • Simple Shimano drivetrain and V-brakes require minimal maintenance skill
Weaknesses
  • Rigid fork transmits all road vibration directly — no comfort for prolonged rough terrain
  • V-brake performance degrades in heavy rain compared to disc alternatives
  • Positioning overlaps heavily with the Discovery FS — differentiation is thin without a compelling price gap
