Origin

2021. The Cargoville represented Bergamont's entry into the fast-growing e-cargo segment — a major strategic move for the brand. More than 2 years of development preceded the launch. The LJ70 (Long John) was the flagship debut: a well-engineered front-loader with bamboo deck, Bosch Cargo Line motor, Enviolo CVT gears, and Magura brakes, positioned as a premium family/professional cargo solution. The Bakery was the smaller urban companion.

01The Cargoville LJ70 battery sits in the STEERING DOME — not the downtube. The 625Wh PowerTube is housed in the handlebar column structure, keeping the weight centred and low. Unique engineering solution.
02The loading deck on the LJ is made of bamboo with anti-slip applications — an eco-conscious material choice that also looks premium. Bergamont offers a bamboo box with aluminium frame as an optional superstructure.
03The modular frame concept: the loading area is bolted to the main frame with solid screws, not welded. Bergamont designed this to allow future accessory platforms (smaller box, different configurations) without replacing the whole bike.
04LJ Expert + LJ Elite support a second Bosch battery via factory Long Range Option — total 1125Wh for whole-day heavy transport. This is one of the highest dual-battery capacities in the segment.
05LT Expert weighs 37.2kg with 725Wh — the heaviest Bergamont bike. The LJ70 at ~45kg is even heavier. Both are beyond 'stair carry' territory — ground-floor storage essential.
06The 2024 hard cover for the EPP box runs on rails and slides toward the direction of travel — a thoughtful UX detail: you slide it open when parking nose-first.
07Bergamont specifically notes the Cargoville LJ is produced 'St. Pauli style' — the Hamburg neighbourhood identity carried into their most ambitious product.
08Bakery name: named after the German 'Bäckerei' tradition of urban delivery bikes carrying bread and goods — a nod to traditional European cargo cycling culture.
