Origin

2025. The Helix name returned after a 5-year absence as a fully different product — an e-urban bike rather than an acoustic hardtail. Bergamont chose the Helix name deliberately to connect with existing brand loyalists while signalling a new direction. The Slope (trapezoid) frame variant is targeted explicitly at women wanting urban e-mobility with sporty character. The Bosch Performance Line SX was chosen over the heavier CX to keep the bike light and agile for city use.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Bosch Performance Line SX (55Nm, 2.1kg) — lightest full Bosch motor. Bike feels more natural and less 'electric'.
  • CompactTube 400Wh IS removable — indoor charging in apartment possible. Key Baltic advantage.
  • PowerMore range extender compatible — 400+250Wh total for longer days
  • SR Suntour NRX32 AIR fork at 75mm — adjustable for rider weight, better than coil at this price
  • Schwalbe G-One Overland 365 50mm — all-season, all-surface, puncture protected. Year-round Baltic use capable.
  • Full equipment standard: lights, rack, fenders, kickstand — no extras needed
  • Slope frame genuinely easier step-through — lower standover than diamond, easier for shorter riders or skirts/dresses
  • Belt + hub gear option (10 Belt) — zero maintenance drivetrain on an e-bike. Rare combination.
  • Shimano CUES Linkglide — new unified trekking groupset, reinforced for e-bike chain loads
  • Colour-codes spec — unusual but transparent once understood
Weaknesses
  • 400Wh is smaller than typical e-trekking competitors (Bosch PowerTube 625Wh standard on Horizon) — shorter range
  • 55Nm (SX) less punch than 85Nm (CX) on steep climbs under load
  • SR Suntour — consistent Bergamont weakness. NRX32 air is better than coil but not RockShox/Fox quality.
  • Only 3 sizes (SM/MD/LG) — narrower fit range than Horizon or Vitess
  • PowerMore on Slope top tube is an awkward position aesthetically — compromises clean look
  • New model (2025) — limited long-term reliability data
  • Limited English-language press coverage of 2025 Helix at time of writing
