Origin

The BMC Timemachine 01 is the Swiss brand's flagship dedicated time-trial and triathlon machine, sitting at the top of the Timemachine family above the road-going Timemachine Road. The current Timemachine 01 Disc generation, launched in 2019, marked BMC's shift to disc brakes for the discipline — the front caliper hides under a removable aerodynamic fairing, and the whole bike was engineered around its Vmax aero tube shapes for stability at zero and shallow yaw. It is built around BMC's P2P (Position-to-Perform) fit philosophy, letting one frame serve both UCI-legal time triallists and forward-positioned triathletes via a dual-mount seatpost and modular cockpit. Sold primarily as a premium framekit, it targets serious racers who value aerodynamics and integrated race-day storage over outright low weight.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Class-leading aerodynamic integration — disc brakes hidden under removable caliper fairings, fully integrated cockpit and storage
  • Highly versatile P2P (Position-to-Perform) fit system with 71°-81° seat-tube range — works for both UCI time trial and aggressive triathlon positions
  • Extensive on-bike storage: removable rear equipment box, top-tube fuel box, downtube bottle mounts — race-day logistics built in
  • Excellent crosswind stability from 3:1 truncated aero tube profiles
  • Quick-swap UCI-legal trim: storage box replaced by seatpost to meet officials' demands
Weaknesses
  • Heavy for the price — among the weightier bikes in its segment
  • Noticeable flex in the stem/basebar setup under load
  • Limited stack adjustment on larger sizes (M/L stack runs too low even with V-Cockpit)
  • Some integrated features (fairings/storage) are not UCI-legal and must be stripped for sanctioned racing
  • Premium-only: electronic groupsets, expensive framekit (~€5,500), single colour with sticker packs
