Foray
01
Origin
Cannondale introduced the Foray for the 2016 model year (unveiled at Press Camp 2015) alongside the unisex Catalyst, as a push to lower the barrier to entry in mountain biking. The Foray is the women's-specific sibling of the Catalyst: same four-tier component lineup (1 through 4), but with more compact geometry, a curved seat tube for extra standover, and a women's saddle. The line ran roughly 2016-2019 on 27.5" wheels before being discontinued.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Strong value for money — hydraulic disc brakes and a hydraulic-lockout fork on the Foray 1 are rare at this entry price
- Double-wall rims across the whole range add durability uncommon in budget hardtails
- Women's-specific geometry and saddle give a better fit for many riders out of the box
- Versatile: rack/fender mounts make it usable as a commuter as well as a singletrack bike
−Weaknesses
- Heavy, basic SR Suntour coil fork with limited performance — fine for paths, crude on real trails
- Entry-level 3x9 Altus/Acera drivetrain feels dated and clunky next to modern 1x setups
- Comparatively heavy overall; not a bike that grows with an ambitious rider
- Discontinued, so spare parts and frame support are limited
