Tango

01

Origin

The Tango is Cannondale's women's-specific hardtail mountain bike, the female counterpart to the unisex/men's Trail series, sharing the same SmartForm alloy frame platform but with women-tuned touchpoints (saddle, narrower bars, fit). It ran from the early 2010s (e.g. 2014 Tango Women's 29) through about 2022, when Cannondale folded women's models into the main Trail line under the 'Trail Women's' name. Positioned as an affordable entry into trail riding, it spanned numbered trims from 1 (highest) to 6/7 (entry).

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Stiff, reliable SmartForm alloy frame with Boost spacing and modern trail geometry at an entry price
  • Women-specific fit and touchpoints (Stage 3 Ergo saddle, sized cockpit) suit shorter/female riders well
  • Both 27.5" and 29" wheel options across the size range
  • Tubeless-ready WTB wheels and (on higher trims) Shimano hydraulic brakes punch above the price point
Weaknesses
  • Basic coil SR Suntour / RockShox XC30 forks are heavy and under-damped for aggressive trail use
  • Entry trims use low-end Shimano Tourney/Altus drivetrains and mechanical Tektro brakes
  • Discontinued — no current support, spec parts and 'women's-specific' positioning now dated
