Origin
Cannondale launched the Treadwell in 2019 as a refreshingly honest design: a city bike that doesn't pretend to be a sport bike. Where most hybrids slope their geometry toward fitness or commuting, the Treadwell sits the rider upright, runs 650b wheels with 47c tires for a cushioned ride, and gives up the pretense that a normal urban cyclist needs 22 gears. Under the head tube sits a small wheel-sensor mount (co-developed with Garmin) that pairs with Cannondale's app to display speed, distance, calories and estimated CO₂ saved — turning a sub-$1,000 bike into a quantified city object without any screen on the bars. The lineup has since grown: Treadwell 1/2/3 for the analog city, Treadwell EQ for fully equipped commuting (fenders, rack, lights), and the Treadwell Neo as the electric version with Bosch and Hyena drive systems. The Treadwell isn't a fast bike. It's not trying to be. It's a bike that makes the act of pedaling around your neighborhood feel like the small pleasure it actually is.
