Origin

The Neuron is Canyon's most popular mountain bike. Positioned exactly between the race-focused Lux and the enduro-focused Spectral, the 2023 update finally gave it modern geometry, shaking off its previous reputation as a conservative 'touring' mountain bike. Gen 1 (2019-2022): First carbon Neuron; 130mm travel all-rounder trail bike. Gen 2 (2023-present): Complete geometry overhaul: slacker head angle (66 deg), steeper seat angle, 140mm front travel standard, internal frame storage.

Frame: Canyon CF carbon monocoque (mid-tier layup; sits below the lighter CF SL / CF SLX layups and the top CFR). 2023 redesign trimmed ~200 g vs prior carbon Neuron via revised tube shapes and layup. Outstanding versatile all-rounder — light, efficient and fast-rolling; covers ground quickly and is happy on all-day epics and quick local laps alike
Excellent climber: comfortable, balanced seated position and a modern 76° seat angle make grinding up steep/technical pitches easy
2023 geometry leap (66° HA, 455 mm reach M) modernised the handling without alienating its core all-rounder audience
Traditional frame cable ports (no through-headset routing) keep maintenance simple — 'makes mechanics happy'
Strong braking and confidence-inspiring suspension on flow and undulating terrain — gives surprise 'get out of jail' moments for a 130 mm bike

−Weaknesses

Stock rear suspension tune is too linear, lacks mid-stroke support and won't reach full travel without adding a volume spacer (~0.8 in³)
Stock Schwalbe Nobby Nic / Wicked Will tyres get overwhelmed in greasy and wet conditions
Stiff/harsh alloy handlebar on some builds (noted on CF 9 SL) transmits trail buzz
Only 130 mm rear travel — bike-park hammering and enduro racing quickly overwhelm the rear shock
Frame limits show under aggressive riding; it rewards a smooth rider more than a charger
