Origin

The Cross Race C:62 SLT is the flagship of Cube's dedicated cyclocross race platform, made in Waldershof, Bavaria. The Cross Race lineage dates back over a decade as Cube's UCI-homologated cyclocross frameset; in 2019 it transitioned to a full C:62 monocoque carbon construction using Cube's Advanced Twin Mold technology, with a semi-integrated seat clamp, internal cable routing through the top of the head tube, and a press-fit BB386 bottom bracket. Geometry is classic cyclocross: 71.5-72° head angle, short 425 mm chainstays, generous mud clearance up to 33 mm Schwalbe X-One Allround tyres on Newmen Advanced G.34 carbon wheels. The SLT trim is the top-of-line spec with Shimano Ultegra/GRX Di2 electronic shifting, carbon cockpit and post, and a complete bike weight around 8.6 kg, putting it in direct competition with Specialized Crux, Trek Boone and Ridley X-Night SL at a typically lower price point. Riders like Belgian cyclocross pro Quinten Hermans have raced earlier Cross Race C:62 frames at UCI World Cup level.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Nimble, fast and aggressive off-road handling — short chainstays and wheelbase give pure-CX agility
  • Lightweight ~8 kg full-carbon C:62 frame and fork aids acceleration, climbing and shouldering during run-ups
  • Top-tier value: Ultegra/GRX Di2 electronic shifting and Newmen carbon wheels at a price well below Specialized Crux / Trek Boone
  • Strong, consistent Shimano hydraulic disc braking in all weather
  • Semi-integrated recessed seatpost flexes for noticeable comfort over rough CX terrain
  • UCI-homologated race pedigree, raced by pros (e.g. Quinten Hermans)
Weaknesses
  • Selle Italia SC1 saddle criticised by reviewers as uncomfortable
  • Tyre clearance capped at 33 mm — limits versatility versus modern gravel bikes (Cube Nuroad takes wider rubber)
  • Feels laboured and slow-rolling on tarmac due to knobbly mud-oriented CX tyres
  • Race-focused, aggressive geometry is less relaxed for long endurance or commuting use
  • Press-fit BB386 bottom bracket can be prone to creak over time
  • Flagship Di2 SLT trim is expensive (~€4,500–5,500) for a niche cyclocross-only platform
