Nulane (Flat-bar gravel)
Origin
Cube, founded in 1993 in Waldershof, Bavaria by Marcus Puerner, grew from a 50-square-metre corner of his father's furniture factory into one of Europe's largest bike makers, known for packing high-spec parts into aggressively-priced complete bikes. The Nulane arrived in the mid-2020s as the flat-bar sibling to Cube's established drop-bar Nuroad gravel range, aimed at the fast-growing 'fitness / adventure' segment where riders want gravel-bike versatility and tyre clearance but prefer the upright control and familiarity of a flat handlebar. It slots between a hybrid and a proper gravel bike: race-road geometry and 40mm knobblies, but with commuter mounts and a flat cockpit. Cube built the line as a value ladder, from the sub-1000-EUR alloy One up to the sub-10kg carbon C:62 SLX, so the same silhouette covers a first-bike buyer and a weight-conscious enthusiast.

The verdict
- Planted, snappy handling from a stiff alloy frame and alloy wheels — feels immediate on road and hardpack
- Practical and low-maintenance: hydraulic discs, durable CUES gearing, full rack and mudguard mounts
- Strong value across the range, especially the sub-1000-EUR alloy trims with a carbon fork
- Firm, a little harsh on rougher gravel — the alloy frame and 40mm cap transmit chatter
- 40mm tyre clearance limits it on rutted or loose terrain versus true wide-tyre gravel bikes
- Heavier than carbon rivals; even alloy trims are 10-13 kg depending on equipment
