Lanao Base
Origin
Ghost was founded in 1993 by two friends, Uwe Kalliwoda and Klaus Mohald, in the small Bavarian town of Waldsassen, Germany, growing out of a garage bike shop they ran for college friends the year before. Their first bike — a competitively priced 9.9 kg machine — was an immediate hit and launched the brand. Ghost built its own aluminium and carbon frame production and became a respected European manufacturer of MTB, road and e-bikes; the company is today part of the Dutch Accell Group. The Lanao is Ghost's women-specific hardtail line: an affordable aluminium platform with comfort-oriented touring geometry aimed at newer female riders wanting one bike for first trails, commuting and leisure rides. Within Lanao, 'Base' is the entry rung of a five-step ladder (Base, Essential, Universal, Advanced, Pro), so it represents the cheapest, simplest specification of the family.

The verdict
- Very affordable entry into a real women's hardtail platform from an established German brand
- Versatile and rack-ready — works as a light trail, commuter and leisure/touring bike
- Comfort-oriented women-specific geometry with disc brakes, easy and confidence-inspiring for beginners
- Entry-level Shimano Tourney 3x8 drivetrain and coil fork are heavy and basic — not for serious trail riding
- Fairly heavy for the category and no official published weight; 26" wheels on classic Base feel dated
- Lower trims (Base) get cable/entry brakes and no dropper — you outgrow the spec quickly if you ride often
