Origin

The Kona Blast served as an entry-level 27.5" hardtail in Kona's lineup from the late 2010s through to approximately 2021-2022. It offered a genuine air-sprung RockShox fork and hydraulic disc brakes at an accessible price, competing directly with similarly specced entry-level offerings from Trek, Specialized, and Giant. Kona eventually consolidated their entry-level hardtail range, with the Blast's slot being absorbed by the Mahuna and Lava Dome models.

  • Plus-size tire clearance added traction and comfort for beginners
  • Durable aluminum frame with Kona's characteristic trail geometry
Weaknesses
  • Discontinued — no longer available new; finding OEM parts may require aftermarket sourcing
  • 27.5" wheel size is less common than 29" for current trail hardtail buyers
  • Base spec drivetrain was adequate but required upgrading for serious trail use
