Process 134

01

Origin

Kona was founded 1988 in Vancouver BC by Dan Gerhard and Jacob Heilbron, working with rider Joe Murray on steel hardtails. The Process line evolved as their full-suspension trail platform. The 134 sits as the 'sensible Process' — short-travel descender that punches above its travel number. 2025 G3 update kept the linkage-driven single-pivot but refreshed geometry (480mm reach in L, 435mm chainstays across sizes).

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Excellent big-hit capability for only 134mm of rear travel — composed on rough, technical descents
  • Highly versatile 'do-everything' trail bike that works across a wide range of terrain
  • Modern-but-approachable geometry (65.5° HA, 435mm chainstays) that is easy to get along with
  • Mixed-wheel (mullet) compatibility via flip chip with no geometry penalty
  • Strong value and a clear alloy-to-carbon build ladder; good spec for the money
Weaknesses
  • Lacks a distinctive personality — its jack-of-all-trades nature means it rarely feels exciting or specialized
  • Seat tube angle could be steeper, especially on larger sizes, for the steepest seated climbs
  • Suspension feels firm on moderate climbs — efficient but less plush than some rivals at low speed
  • Carbon CR/DL build is pricey ($5,499) for a 134mm trail bike; you pay for the chassis more than flash parts
  • Base alloy build's 10-speed Microshift drivetrain and Recon fork are budget-tier and the first things owners tend to upgrade
