Origin

Kona introduced the Remote as its entry into the e-MTB market, drawing on the same trail geometry philosophy as the Process line but adding a Shimano Steps motor system. The Remote family spans 130mm and 160mm travel variants, targeting trail riders who want electric assist for longer, more exploratory rides without sacrificing the fun, playful character Kona is known for. The 160mm version bridges the gap between trail and enduro e-MTB categories, offering big-hit capability with a manageable 504–612 Wh battery.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Shimano E7000/EP8 motor delivers natural, smooth pedal-assist feel — one of the better motor options for trail e-MTBs
  • Lively, playful handling — retains the fun character of Kona's acoustic trail bikes
  • TRP Slate EVO brakes offer excellent stopping power for heavy e-MTB use
Weaknesses
  • 504 Wh base battery is on the smaller side for longer rides compared to 625–750 Wh competitors
  • Microshift Advent X 10-speed drivetrain is a budget component that riders often upgrade early
  • Heavier than an acoustic Process — typical e-MTB weight penalty applies
