Origin

The eC01 City launched in 2019 as the urban counterpart to the eT01 trekking line, and Peugeot added a premium Crossover variant in January 2021. The Crossover's 500 Wh Bosch Performance CX setup and wide 2.25" Schwalbe tires pushed the eC01 toward the edge of the urban/trekking boundary, while the standard D9 with 300 Wh kept a lower price point for straightforward city commuters.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Shimano MT201 hydraulic brakes provide confident, modular stopping in wet urban conditions
  • Standard D9 build (23.6 kg, 300 Wh) is well-priced for a Bosch-equipped city e-bike with fenders and rack included
  • Crossover variant's wide tires and Performance CX motor meaningfully extend usable terrain beyond asphalt
Weaknesses
  • D9 standard's 300 Wh battery is modest — real-world range of 32-50 km limits usefulness for longer daily commutes
  • At 23.6 kg the standard build is heavy to lift; step-through variants add further weight
  • Suntour NEX fork (47 mm travel) dampens road buzz but is not tuned for off-road riding
