Origin

The Bolide is Pinarello's time trial and triathlon platform, with three distinct flavours sharing the name. The Bolide F TT is the UCI-legal road TT bike, redesigned for Paris 2024 with 'AirStream' technology — a pattern of AeroNodes on the seat tube and seatpost developed with the University of Adelaide — claiming a 2.28% CdA reduction over the previous Bolide F. Tyre clearance grew from 28 to 32 mm. The Bolide TR and TR+ are the non-UCI triathlon variants — same aesthetic language but longer head tube (+35 mm), lower bottom bracket (-8 mm), 78° seat tube angle, and integrated bento/storage boxes for Ironman use. A separate 3D-printed titanium HR variant exists for hour-record and track pursuit, including the frame Filippo Ganna rode for his UCI Hour Record. Pricing reflects the niche — framesets start near $15,000 USD for the F TT, with complete TR+ Dura-Ace builds around €11,000.

Specifications

Frame
Bolide F TT: TorayCa T1100G 1K Nanoalloy carbon (TiCR internal cable routing, Italian threaded BB). Triathlon Bolide TR+ uses T1100G UD with Nanoalloy; Bolide TR uses lower-grade T700 UD (heavier, less stiff). HR variant is fully 3D-printed titanium.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Genuine race pedigree — the Bolide platform carries multiple UCI Hour Records (Wiggins, Ganna) and Olympic/World TT wins, with aero refined over 2,000+ CFD simulations.
  • Bolide F TT's AirStream tech (AeroNodes on seat tube/post, co-developed with University of Adelaide) delivers a measured 2.28% CdA reduction over the prior model.
  • Disc-brake F TT frameset is light for an aero TT frame (~2.27 kg incl. fork/seatpost/brakes), helping keep UCI-legal builds near the 6.8 kg limit.
  • Bolide TR+ triathlon geometry (taller head tube, lower BB, 78° seat angle) genuinely improves long-course comfort and stability for Ironman age-groupers, with integrated storage that also smooths airflow.
  • Increased 32 mm tyre clearance (F TT) modernises the platform for wider, faster-rolling tyres.
Weaknesses
  • Extreme price — F TT frameset around $14,500-$15,800; complete builds €11,000+. Custom 3D-printed titanium MOST aerobar can run ~$34,000.
  • Frameset-only sale means buyers must source wheels, groupset and finishing kit separately, pushing total cost far higher.
  • Hyper-specialised single-discipline bike: no versatility — pointless for anyone racing TT/tri only a handful of times a year vs a clip-on aerobar on a road bike.
  • TR (non-plus) uses lower-grade T700 carbon, so it is noticeably heavier and less stiff than the flagship TR+.
  • Reviewers/forums note the conservative, surprise-free design and clumsy electronic control-box integration (e.g. SRAM AXS box placement); armrest pads look agricultural.

Who it’s for

Elite or wealthy age-group TT racer or Ironman athlete who needs UCI-legal (F TT) or fit-optimised triathlon (TR/TR+) aero geometry and is willing to pay top-tier for it.
