Origin

Launched in 2023 as a full-suspension cousin to the hardtail Tero, the Turbo Tero X carved out a niche Specialized called "e-SUV" — a do-everything machine with 130/120 mm of travel, a mullet 29/27.5" wheel setup (27.5/27.5" on size S), and full commuter mounting points for racks, fenders, and lights. The Tero X borrows geometry cues from the previous-generation Stumpjumper but with a higher bottom bracket and more upright cockpit for all-day comfort. Three motor tunes span the line: 50 Nm 2.0E on the 4.0, 70 Nm 2.0 on the 5.0, and 90 Nm 2.2 on the flagship 6.0 — the same flagship motor as the Levo Gen 3 and Tero 5.0. All trims share the 710 Wh internal battery and the same aluminum E5 frame. Specialized positioned the Tero X as the ideal one-bike-quiver for European riders living near both city and forest — common across the Baltic, Nordic, and Alpine markets.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • True one-bike-quiver: factory rack, fender and integrated lighting mounts on a full-suspension e-bike — genuine commute-and-trail crossover
  • Flagship 6.0 packs the Turbo Full Power 2.2 motor (90 Nm) and 710 Wh battery shared with the Levo Gen 3 — strong, quiet Brose mid-drive with deep Mission Control app tuning
  • Full 130/120 mm suspension plus mullet 29/27.5" wheels give real comfort and control at speed, well beyond a typical SUV/trekking e-bike
  • Well-specced flagship parts: SRAM X01 Eagle 1×12, SRAM Code RSC 4-piston brakes (200/180 mm), X-Fusion dropper, bright 1000-lumen light with brake-sensing rear
  • Lifetime frame warranty, strong dealer network and serviceable internal battery (swap without removing motor)
Weaknesses
  • Heavy at ~26.5 kg — trades agility on tight, technical singletrack and manuals; not ideal as a pure trail eMTB
  • Reported speed-sensor/magnet errors that cleaning didn't always reset on long-term test units
  • No shift-detection in the motor controller — requires careful pedaling during shifts to protect the drivetrain
  • TCD2 display is non-removable, lacks auto-dimming, and the app still has no onboard turn-by-turn navigation (only shows where you've been)
  • Ground Control tires lack puncture resistance and reflective sidewalls; long front fender can clip obstacles and pointy kickstand sinks in soft ground; no bottle-cage room above the motor on larger frames

Who it’s for

Riders who want one bike for everything — gravel adventures, forest singletrack, urban commuting, and weekend touring. Particularly suited to Baltic and Scandinavian users mixing road, gravel, and forest paths daily. Less ideal for pure singletrack riders (Levo SL is sharper) or pure commuters (Vado is faster and more comfortable on tarmac).
