Origin

The X Cross is Stevens' sporty city/trekking crossover — designed for riders who commute in the week and hit gravel paths at weekends. The aluminium triple-butted frame is paired with an SR Suntour suspension fork across all variants, taking the sting out of urban kerbs and forest-path roots. The X Cross line covers a wide price band from the 3X (entry, 3×8 gearing) to the 8X (flagship, Shimano Deore XT 3×10, air fork). Both Gent and Lady frames are available at each tier.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Suspension fork absorbs city kerbs and gravel chatter regardless of trim level
  • Wide size range (up to 9 sizes on 6X) ensures a good fit for most riders
  • Upper trims (7X/8X) bring Shimano Deore XT quality to the city/trekking category
Weaknesses
  • Heavier than pure road bikes (12.1–13.4 kg) limits performance on longer road rides
  • 3× gearing is more complex to maintain than single or internal hub options
  • Schwalbe Smart Sam is a compromise tyre — not as fast as slicks, not as grippy as MTB tyres
