Origin

The Link launched with Tern in 2011 as the brand's accessible, no-nonsense everyday folder. While the Verge line pushed performance limits, the Link was designed for the commuter who just needed a reliable, foldable bike that fits on any train and under any desk without breaking the bank.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Lightweight at 12.1 kg — easy to carry on stairs or into offices
  • OCL+ hinge provides premium rigidity at an entry-level price point
  • Wide Schwalbe Big Apple tires give a comfortable, stable ride on rough city streets
Weaknesses
  • V-brakes less powerful than hydraulic discs in wet conditions
  • 8-speed Claris is adequate for flat cities but shows its limits on steep hills
  • No suspension means rough cobblestones transmit directly to the rider
