FX Women's (WSD)
Origin
The FX Women's was Trek's women-specific take on their best-selling FX fitness hybrid — a flat-bar, lightweight aluminium bike designed for the rider who wanted something faster than a comfort cruiser but more upright than a road bike. Trek's WSD (Women's Specific Design) program adjusted standover height, top tube length, saddle, grip width, and brake reach to fit the proportions Trek's research suggested for shorter-torsoed riders. The FX WSD shipped in 1, 2, and 3 trims with mounts for racks and fenders, riser bars, and a saddle Trek developed with female testers. Trek formally retired the WSD label around 2018-2019 and folded women's-specific geometry into a unisex sizing range with size-specific touchpoints (saddle, bars, stem), meaning today's FX 1/2/3 covers what was once split between men's and women's lines. Used FX WSD bikes from 2014-2018 remain widely available on the European second-hand market and are still considered one of the most rider-friendly entry hybrids ever made.

The verdict
- WSD-specific fit (shorter reach, lower standover, narrower bars, shorter brake reach) genuinely suits shorter-torsoed riders and makes mounting/dismounting easy.
- Lightweight FX Alpha Gold aluminum frame with a carbon Bontrager Nebula fork on flagship 7.4/7.5 — efficient flat-bar fitness ride that still smooths road buzz.
- Versatile commuter package: rack & fender mounts plus DuoTrap S compatibility for racks, mudguards and speed/cadence sensing.
- Reliable, dealer-serviceable Shimano Acera/Deore 3x9 drivetrain and Trek's strong warranty/dealer network make it a low-hassle long-term bike.
- Women's-specific Bontrager H1 WSD saddle and IsoZone vibration-damping bar with a 30-day comfort guarantee ease the fit for many riders.
- Whole WSD-era 7.x line ships with Tektro linear-pull V-brakes (even the flagship 7.4) — pads wear fast and wet-weather stopping is weak versus modern disc FX models.
- Stiff aluminum frame with a rigid fork transmits road vibration; entry 7.0-7.2 WSD (steel/alloy fork) are noticeably harsher than the carbon-fork flagship.
- Flat handlebar gives a single hand position that can cause wrist/elbow ache on rides longer than ~1 hour.
- Stock nylon platform pedals and budget cockpit/cranks on lower tiers are common first upgrades.
- Rigid fork + narrow 700x32-35c slick tires mean road/path only — no real off-road or rough-gravel capability — and Trek publishes no official weight.
