Origin

The Energie is Vitus's dedicated cyclocross platform, built around UCI-legal geometry and maximum mud clearance. The Evo CR and CRS versions use a continuous SL UD carbon layup with no bonded joints — a construction technique that saves weight and eliminates muddy crack points. The removable seatstay bridge is a distinctive feature: in CX racing, removing it allows a full hand-width clearance between tyre and frame, crucial when riding in thick Belgian mud.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Continuous UD carbon with no joins is genuinely stiff and light for a CX race platform
  • Removable seatstay bridge provides class-leading mud clearance in wet conditions
  • UCI approval means it's ready for competitive racing at any level
Weaknesses
  • 1x drivetrain limits high-speed gear range on flat open CX courses
  • Dedicated CX geometry makes it less comfortable for long road or gravel days
  • Entry alloy builds are competent but miss the mud-shedding benefits of the carbon Evo
