Origin
ARC ('Aluminium Reduced Chromoly') debuted in 1991 as a groundbreaking Easton-tubed aluminium hardtail weighing just 3.2 lb — one of the bikes that pushed mountain biking out of the steel era. Yeti quietly dropped the model in 2016. On 21 July 2020, for the brand's 35th anniversary, the ARC was reborn as an all-new carbon 29er — a limited run of 100 turquoise-and-yellow heritage frames. Unlike the original race bike, the modern ARC is a new-school trail hardtail built around a 130 mm fork and progressive geometry.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Engaging, playful, snappy handling — balanced trail geometry that reacts perfectly through dips and trees
- Carbon layup + 2.6" tyres deliver surprising compliance, ironing out trail chatter for a hardtail
- Comfortable and efficient seated pedalling on steep climbs and long drags
- Excellent finishing-kit highlights: top-performing Synthesis wheels and a deep-drop dropper post
- Genuinely versatile — fun on short post-work blasts and capable on longer rides
−Weaknesses
- Poor value: basic forks, weak brakes and thin tyres are inappropriate at £4,000+
- SRAM Level brakes get hot and lose power fast on long descents
- Reaches its limits quickly on rowdy, rocky, ledgy terrain — only so much a hardtail can absorb
- Thin-casing tyres are vulnerable; the Rekon rear has shallow tread that struggles in mud and braking
- Drivetrain spec feels low for the price on the cheaper builds
