Origin

2018. Bergamont introduced dedicated women's Revox variants as the hardtail lineup matured. Rather than creating a completely separate model, they adapted the Revox frame with a shaped top tube for lower standover, women-specific contact points, and mixed wheel sizes (27.5" for smaller frames, 29" for larger). The approach mirrors the URBALT-documented industry pattern: real geometry numbers are identical, physical differences are at the contact points and standover.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Identical reach/stack geometry to men's equivalent — no performance compromise
  • Mixed wheel sizes (27.5"/29" by frame size) — proportional fit for shorter riders
  • Shaped top tube — genuinely lower standover, easier mounting/dismounting
  • Women-specific saddle and narrower bars — real comfort difference for female anatomy
  • FMN EQ variant (2020): road-legal equipment on a women's MTB — rare and practical
  • Revox 4 FMN explicitly marketed as women's with kickstand/fender compatibility — all-year trail commuter potential
  • Boost thru-axle throughout — same hardware standard as men's. No compromise on wheel retention.
Weaknesses
  • SR Suntour fork — same weakness as men's Revox. Entry/mid fork limits technical descending.
  • Max system weight 115kg (vs 125kg some men's) — limiting for heavier women riders
  • No women's carbon variant — carbon Revox was unisex only (2017–2019 era)
  • Limited English-language women's MTB press coverage specifically for Bergamont
  • Women's colourways historically less varied than men's — fewer options
  • Size notation (XS7, S7, M9...) can be confusing when buying online — buyers must understand the wheel size suffix
