Origin

The Meta SX launched in 2020 as Commencal's mullet enduro answer — borrowing the geometry philosophy of their Supreme DH (long chainstays, low BB) and applying it to a more trail-capable platform. The mullet wheel pairing (29" front, 27.5" rear) was controversial at launch but quickly validated by World Cup enduro results. The V5 (2023+) refined the VCS suspension for even better traction and sensitivity.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • VCS dual-link suspension delivers excellent traction and sensitivity for an alloy enduro bike
  • Mullet wheel pairing: 29" rollover up front, 27.5" agility in the rear — effective real-world compromise
  • Direct-to-consumer pricing at ,000–,200 undercuts carbon mullet rivals significantly
Weaknesses
  • High BB (~355mm) can feel awkward on smooth, flowing terrain where a lower centre of gravity is preferred
  • Trail casing tires on some builds feel underprepared for the bike's aggressive descending capability
  • At 16.5 kg (L), heavier than premium carbon enduro competitors
