Acid 200 / 240 / 260

Origin

Cube was founded in 1993 by Marcus Puerner in Waldershof, Bavaria, Germany, starting in a corner of his father's furniture factory. Over three decades it grew into one of Europe's largest and most vertically integrated bike brands, known for offering strong components at sharp prices. The Acid name is one of Cube's longest-running sub-brands, used across adult hardtails and, since the mid-2010s, across a dedicated children's range. The kids' Acid 200 / 240 / 260 line applies the same 'proper bike, scaled down' philosophy: lightweight Aluminium Lite 6061 frames, real Shimano drivetrains and, on the larger sizes, genuine suspension forks and hydraulic disc brakes rather than the toy-grade parts common on supermarket kids' bikes. The three-number naming simply tracks wheel size in tenths of an inch-band (200 = 20", 240 = 24", 260 = 26"), so a family can move a child up the same well-sorted platform as they grow.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Real components at a fair price — Shimano gearing and (current) Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, not toy-grade parts.
  • Light aluminium frame and confidence-inspiring, stable geometry that suits everyday and light off-road use.
  • Clear size ladder (20/24/26") plus value/Disc/FE trims lets you match the bike to age, budget and use (commuting vs trails).
Weaknesses
  • On the heavier end for their class — e.g. the 240 tips ~13 kg as-tested, awkward for a small child to lift up stairs.
  • Coil suspension forks (240/260) are basic and less responsive than air; not made for jumps, drops or aggressive trails.
  • Geometry is all-rounder, not technical-MTB; keen riders progressing to real trails may outgrow the capability.
