Origin

The Stereo ONE44 is Cube's modern trail / all-mountain platform, introduced in the 2023 Stereo ONE family relaunch and built in Waldershof, Bavaria as the successor to the previous Stereo 140. In Cube's new naming scheme the number maps directly to rear travel: ONE22 = 120 mm, ONE44 = 140 mm, ONE55 = 155 mm, ONE77 = 170 mm — so the ONE44 runs 140 mm rear / 140 mm front. The frame uses Cube's ETC four-link rear suspension with a contemporary 65.4° head angle and adjustable-angle headset, offered in C:62 and flagship C:68X carbon (plus an HPC carbon-front Rookie), all with integrated down-tube storage, UDH and ICR through-headset routing. It is the analogue (non-motor) sibling of the Stereo Hybrid ONE44 e-MTB, consolidating Cube's trail lineup under one unified frame family.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Manoeuvrable, flickable and responsive without being twitchy — easy, intuitive trail handling
  • Excellent climbing efficiency thanks to balanced, contemporary geometry
  • Outstanding value for money — Cube's dealer pricing undercuts most rivals for the spec
  • Genuinely modern frame: integrated down-tube storage, UDH, adjustable Angle Set headset
  • Progressive rear end holds reserves on rough terrain despite the modest 140 mm travel
Weaknesses
  • ICR cable routing through the headset causes friction and squeaking, especially in dust
  • Down-tube storage hatch cover can feel sloppy/rattly even after adjustment
  • Stock tyre choice (Forekaster on Race) is fast-rolling but under-gripped for aggressive riders
  • Headset/internal routing makes servicing and bar/stem swaps fiddlier than external routing
  • Heavier and less playful than shorter-travel ONE22 if used purely as an XC/light-trail bike
