Max
Origin
Hiboy is a Chinese-founded consumer mobility brand (parent Chengdu/Shenzhen ecosystem) that broke into the North American market around 2019-2020 by selling directly through Amazon and its own webstore rather than through traditional retail. Its formula was simple and repeatable: take a proven kick-scooter template, undercut better-known brands on price, and ship it with a phone app and a lifetime of Amazon reviews. The Max, launched around 2020, became one of Hiboy's signature commuter models and a fixture of the sub-$450 entry tier alongside rivals like the Gotrax GXL and the earlier Xiaomi M365 clones. Where most budget scooters of the era shipped pneumatic tires that punctured, the Max leaned hard on flat-proof solid honeycomb tires as its headline selling point, betting that buyers new to e-scooters valued zero maintenance over ride comfort. It sold in huge volume in the US, spawned the near-identical Max V2 in 2021 and the later S2 Max / Max Pro long-range models, and made 'Hiboy Max' shorthand for a cheap, cheerful first e-scooter.
