Origin

The Koga WorldTraveller has been the flagship touring bike of the Dutch brand since 2008, built around one principle: survive anywhere on Earth fully loaded. Generations of round-the-world cyclists — including Australian cycle tourist Alee Denham — have clocked tens of thousands of kilometres on WorldTravellers. The 2023 revision added hydroformed torsion chambers for stiffness, raised the stack height for better ergonomics on long days, and certified a 180 kg total load rating (rider + luggage + bike).

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Class-leading 180 kg load rating with robust thru-axle frame and 40-spoke wheels
  • Flexible drivetrain options (XT derailleur standard; Rohloff+belt via Signature) suit different touring philosophies
  • Generous tyre clearance (up to 72 mm) and multiple rack mounts make it a true expedition platform
Weaknesses
  • Heavy at 20+ kg even without luggage — not enjoyable on climbs without a full load
  • Signature Rohloff build costs significantly more than the standard model
  • Aluminium frame offers less vibration damping than steel alternatives preferred by long-distance tourers
