Skitch
Origin
Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in 1993 in Santa Cruz, California, and built its reputation on aggressive, warranty-backed mountain bikes before broadening into gravel with the Stigmata. The Skitch, revealed in 2023 for the 2024 model year, is the brand's first foray into the lightweight electric drop-bar / urban segment. Rather than a heavy full-power e-MTB, Santa Cruz took the Stigmata gravel chassis, slackened the head angle slightly for high-speed stability, and integrated the compact Fazua Ride 60 system (Fazua is owned by Porsche) so the bike still looks and rides like a normal light gravel bike. The name 'skitch' refers to grabbing onto a moving vehicle to get towed along - a nod to the subtle, on-demand boost the motor gives. It is positioned as an N+1 'less-car' machine: fast enough to flatten a commute, capable enough to blast backroads and gravel.
Specifications

- Carbon CC (full carbon frame and fork), Stigmata-derived geometry

The verdict
- Very light for an e-bike (~13.5kg carbon CC) and rides like a normal gravel bike with zero motor drag when off
- Discreet, quiet Fazua Ride 60 assist with genuinely useful range (60+ mi / ~100km) and Class 3 speed
- Versatile: same frame in drop-bar gravel or flat-bar urban form, 50mm tyre clearance, quality AXS wireless builds
- Expensive - reviewers note rivals deliver ~90% of the experience for far less money
- No rack or fender mounts and a single Matte Olive colourway limit its practicality/appeal as a pure commuter
- Fazua companion app is mediocre and firmware needs app/desktop/dealer updates; smaller 430Wh battery than full-power e-bikes
Generations
MY24 launch (2024)
- First-generation launch. Same Carbon CC frame, Stigmata-derived geometry, 45-50mm tyre clearance. Early naming used 'Skitch 1' for the halo build.
MY25-MY26 (current)
- Frame, motor and battery unchanged; lineup simplified to Apex and GX AXS in drop and flat bar. Effectively the same bike - buy on price/condition, not generation.
