Origin

The Sonora is Stevens' carbon XC hardtail, designed to bridge the gap between featherweight race bikes and robust trail machines. The Carbon SL HMF monocoque frame was updated with Boost 148 spacing for stiffer rear end and wider tyre options. The RockShox SID SL is one of the lightest XC suspension forks on the market, keeping weight down for marathon and cross-country use. Named after the Sonoran Desert — a vast landscape that speaks to the bike's durability and range.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Carbon SL HMF frame keeps weight competitive for XC and marathon racing
  • RockShox SID SL is class-leading in the XC fork category
  • Boost 148 mm rear spacing adds stiffness and modern compatibility
Weaknesses
  • 100 mm travel limits capability on technical enduro terrain

  • SRAM SX Eagle is an entry 1×12 — performance riders will want GX or XX1
