Origin

The FX+ 7 was introduced in November 2024 as the flagship of Trek's lightweight commuter line, bringing the TQ HPR50 mid-drive system — first seen on the Domane+ SLR — down to the city bike segment. The result is one of the rare urban e-bikes with a mid-mount motor at this weight: roughly 18 kg with rack, fenders, and lights included. The TQ harmonic pin ring transmission delivers 50 Nm in near silence, which marks the FX+ 7 apart from the louder hub-drive competition. Trek paired it with Shimano CUES LG400 LinkGlide gearing, the new commuter-targeted drivetrain designed for higher-torque e-bike abuse. The bike comes in standard, midstep, and longtail (LT) cargo variants, and pricing in Europe lands around €4,499 — premium for a city bike but undercuts most European TQ-equipped competitors.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Near-silent TQ HPR50 mid-drive with a natural, bike-like ride feel (motor stays out of the way)
  • Lightweight for a fully-equipped city e-bike at ~18 kg with rack, fenders and lights
  • Excellent handling and maneuverability; balanced, agile city ride
  • Comes fully commute-ready out of the box (mudguards, integrated lights, rack, kickstand, Quad Lock charging mount)
  • Durable Shimano CUES LinkGlide 1x10 drivetrain built for higher-torque e-bike loads
Weaknesses
  • Motor feels underpowered next to higher-torque rivals like Bosch — riders wanting strong push will be disappointed
  • Modest 360 Wh battery and ~30-48 km real-world range; range extender costs extra
  • Accessories (kickstand, rack) feel budget relative to the ~€4,499 / £4,000 price
  • Integrated lights are insufficient for unlit roads
  • Battery is internal and only dealer-removable — no convenient at-home swap, and limited cargo capacity from the lightweight rack

Who it’s for

Premium commuter or design-conscious city rider who wants mid-drive feel, near-silent operation, and the option of a cargo-capable longtail version — willing to pay double the entry FX+ 2 for stealth and refinement.
