Verve+ 4
Origin
The Verve+ 4 is Trek's flagship comfort-hybrid e-bike — the bike Trek points commuters and recreational riders toward when they want the most relaxed possible upright position with full-power Bosch assist. The 2025 model year migrated to the Bosch Performance Line Smart System motor (75 Nm) paired with a Bosch PowerPack 800 Wh battery in the downtube — one of the larger production batteries on a non-cargo hybrid. A suspension seatpost, plush saddle, wide swept handlebar, and 50 mm cushy tires deliver the comfort-first ride. Integrated lights, fenders, rack, and a kickstand come standard, plus the bike is available in standard, midstep, and lowstep frames so older riders or those with limited mobility can step through easily. Pricing in Europe sits around €4,149 for the standard Verve+ 4 2025.

The verdict
- Exceptional comfort: high-volume 2.40" tires, sprung suspension seatpost, ergo saddle and upright bar combine for a plush, fatigue-free ride on rough pavement
- One of the largest stock batteries in its class — Bosch 800 Wh Smart System delivers long range and headroom for hilly or loaded riding
- Fully equipped from the factory: integrated always-on lights, paint-matched fenders, rear rack and kickstand — ready to commute out of the box
- Excellent accessibility — true lowstep/midstep step-through frames make it easy for older riders or those with limited mobility to mount
- Trek build quality and seamless component integration; Bosch Smart System adds app navigation, anti-theft alarm and motor diagnostics
- Heavy — around 28-29 kg fully equipped, awkward to lift onto a rack, carry up stairs or maneuver when the battery is depleted
- Comfort-first geometry is inefficient and un-aerodynamic for fast or long-distance riding; assist cuts at 25 km/h (EU) so spirited riders feel held back
- Bosch Performance Line is a smooth mid-tier motor (75 Nm) but not the top-torque CX unit — adequate, not overpowering, on steep climbs
- Charging port access is fiddly — the down-tube flap is hard to hold open and the plug is awkward to orient and insert
- Walk-assist is disabled and the integrated lights cannot be switched off (safety design), which some riders dislike
- Premium price (~€4,100+) for a comfort hybrid, and the step-through frame is marginally less rigid than a diamond frame
