Origin

Launched in late 2021, the Mi Electric Scooter 3 was Xiaomi's iterative successor to the hugely popular M365/1S that defined the budget commuter category. Rather than chase speed or range, Xiaomi focused on portability and braking, keeping the same 275 Wh battery but adding a 300 W (600 W peak) motor and a redesigned dual-pad rear disc brake. At ~13 kg it became one of the lightest mainstream city scooters of its era, aimed squarely at last-mile commuters who carry the scooter onto public transport.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Very lightweight at ~13.2 kg with a quick fold-and-carry latch — easy to bring onto trains/buses or up stairs
  • Pneumatic 8.5" tires give a smoother ride than the solid-tire budget rivals
  • Strong, fade-resistant braking from the dual-pad rear disc plus front E-ABS regenerative brake (~3.1 m stop from 20 km/h)
  • 600 W peak motor handles short, steep hills better than the older M365/1S
  • Solid build quality and Xiaomi-app ecosystem (cruise control, locking, firmware updates)
Weaknesses
  • Small 275 Wh battery — real-world range often drops to 15-20 km in cold weather or with a heavier rider, well below the 30 km claim
  • Noticeable power/speed reduction as the battery depletes, hurting hill performance late in a ride
  • Slow ~5-hour recharge time
  • No suspension — bumps and cracks are transmitted through the small wheels
  • Only IP54 and explicitly not rated for wet-weather riding; mandatory app activation before full speed is unlocked is a friction point
